Kwantlen Non-Market Housing is a significant initiative on Kwantlen Nation land, funded by the BC Housing IHF (Indigenous Housing Fund), to provide much-needed, affordable housing for Kwantlen Nation Members. This 6-story, 75,400 square-foot building will offer 65 affordable rental homes ranging in size to accommodate diverse needs.
Enhancing the sense of community, the development features amenity spaces on the main level, a rooftop gathering space, and ground-level parking. A key element of the project is the integration of culturally significant colours, building materials, and purpose-built gathering spaces and community rooms. This building is situated amongst nature, surrounded by large cedars and adjacent the Stave River, where Kwantlen have lived for millenia. Visitors to the building will be welcomed by a winding, natural stone-clad driveway, arriving at the building’s front entry adjacent a large timber outdoor pavilion, designed with guidance from the Kwantlen Nation.
In future phases, the development site will include a separate two-story, 5,380-square-foot wood-frame childcare facility which will provide essential early childhood services for families in the community. This project represents a meaningful step toward community enrichment, cultural preservation, and sustainable housing solutions.
