Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens

Description

The 8,000 SF Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden was the first of its kind to be built in North America. Constructed by Chinese craftsmen using traditional construction methods and materials, the structures unfortunately fell victim to the exceedingly wet local climate over time.

Kindred worked with the architect and the garden staff to identify key problem areas. Modern construction techniques and materials were developed that would harmonize with the traditional elements of the garden and bolster the structures against the climate.

The space remained open to the public during construction. A phasing plan and site-specific safety measures were required to protect visitors while isolating areas of the garden for work.
